সন্ধি : পাশাপাশি অবস্থিত দুটি ধ্বনির মিলনকে সন্ধি বলে। অর্থাৎ, এখানে দুটি ধ্বনির মিলন হবে, এবং সেই দুটি ধ্বনি পাশাপাশি অবস্থিত হবে। যেমন, ‘নর + অধম = নরাধম’। এখানে ‘নর’র শেষ ধ্বনি ‘অ’ (ন+অ+র+ অ), এবং ‘অধম’র প্রথম ধ্বনি ‘অ’। এখানে ‘অ’ ও ‘অ’ মিলিত হয়ে ‘আ’ হয়েছে। অর্থাৎ পাশাপাশি অবস্থিত দুইট ধ্বনি ‘অ’ ও ‘অ’ মিলিত হয়ে ‘আ’ হলো।
